8 Tips to get the Perfect Family Photo!

Find a photographer whose editing style you love.

Everyone has a unique style of shooting and editing so make sure that you check out the Instagram account or website of the photographer to make sure that they are for you! There is nothing worse then finally getting that money shot all to have it ruined by a filter that is just not your vibe!

Decide on an outfit that flatters your body.

I think for most of us postpartum mommies that dresses are going to be the most flattering in pictures, but I fell in love with these jeans and felt really confident in them. These are the Denzien Brand from Target and I have them in every wash because they made me believe in jeans again!

Build the families outfits based off of yours.

The kids will look cute in absolutely whatever you put them in so focus on an outfit that will make you feel like your best self because when mommy is happy everyone is happy! I bought an outfit I felt great in and chose a color palette for everyone else that complimented each other.

Bring a HYPE person!

Someone who can help to get the kids to look at the camera and get their attention for the perfect shot.. Do not underestimate how helpful it is to have a favorite aunt/uncle around for smiles and to help hold the kids when its time to get a pic of just mom & dad.

Take photos BEFORE or AFTER nap time!

NEVER during a time when they should be asleep. Enough said.

Keep it short and sweet.

We got all of these shots in less then 30 min but I absolutely would’ve considered it a success if we got one good one so I was thrilled!

Be mindful of your commute to the session.

If you have a child prone to diaper blow outs don’t change them into their outfit until you arrive!

Eat at home if you can

Eat before you leave so there is no fast food evidence on their clothes and if you have to eat on the go bring a little art smock or some glad wrap to cling to their clothes.

Bring mess-free snacks

Never ever forget the snacks. Things like fruit pouches with this special topper for extra insurance and even a lollipop for bribes. Not to mention suckers would look cute even if they had to get the photo taken with them. And nothing wrong with having little cookies on hand for a job well done after.

Now go and capture those memories!
